Introduction
Microsoft 365 is a work environment solution for businesses that offers multiple interconnected office applications ranging from email to video conferencing (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, etc.). In order to establish the environmental impacts of using each of these services, Sopht needs access to certain data from the company's Microsoft 365 usage reports.
This document serves as a user manual, providing Sopht's customers with the necessary information to set up the collector.
Quick Overview
Purpose: Collects usage metrics and activity data from Microsoft 365 services (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint) to measure environmental impact of digital workplace tools.
Key Information:
- Data Collected:
- Outlook: Number of emails sent/received, mailbox storage (bytes), meetings created
- Teams: Audio/video duration (seconds), team/private chat messages, calls, meetings
- OneDrive/SharePoint: Cloud storage usage (bytes)
- Collection Frequency: Daily, but data has 2-3 day delay due to Microsoft API limitations
- History: The maximum history available in Microsoft is 180 days old, on the first execution the collector will retrieve the last 180 days worth of data
Setup Requirements:
- Microsoft Tenant ID
- Application ID
- Application Secret
- Permissions: Read-only access to Microsoft Graph API usage reports
Important Notes:
- No internal content is collected (no email content, file content, etc.)
- Only aggregated usage metrics at organization level
- Can be deployed Sopht-side (default) or customer-side
- Customer-side deployment requires Docker
